About the Artist
Valeria Yost began her adventures as a wildlife artist early on, selling her paintings while still in high school. Self-taught, she has carefully chosen various workshops to improve her artistic skills. Valeria believes her best training has come from studying nature, spending time in remote areas horseback riding, hiking, and backpacking, and getting to know her subjects intimately.
Her artwork has been on display throughout North America for over 25 years, and she has been chosen by many groups and foundations to do special artwork projects, including the Idaho Fish and Game department, Backcountry Horsemen of California, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Ducks Unlimited — and you can even find her depiction of a whitetail buck on the front of the Medallion Series Gun Safe by Browning.
Valeria takes photographs and does field studies that provide information for her strongly contrasted and brightly colored paintings. Working predominately in watercolors and gouache, she takes great care to depict her subjects and their habitats accurately. She is associated with the Wild Wings group of artists.
