Come on in and see the amazing art and craftsmanship that is going into the restoration of the classic 36-pony carousel. An original Allan Herschell carousel from circa 1920, carved in the “Country Fair Style” for which Herschell was famous, it is one of the few intact hand carved carousels remaining from the 4,000 or so created during the early 19th century “golden age”. 24 of the completed ponies will be on display along with many of the other colorful pieces that make up a carousel. Open house start at 11:00, with the OLD TIME FIDDLERS playing from 2:00 – 5:00.
With plenty of swagger, and an assortment of banjoes, guitars, flutes, pipes, bones, spoons, Bodhrans, mandolins, accordions, fiddles, a stand-up bass and a cello, the old time fiddlers are a diverse group of can do musicians that laugh a lot, play a lot, and in general, they start and stop together on time, in time, and in the right key.
In 2022, Les Tucker, a Western swing hall of fame fiddler, gathered together a group of local like minded musicians to jam, play, perform, share, inspire, and in general, have more fun than grown-ups should be allowed to have. Going by several names, including the Last Chance Band, the Slow Jam, the Irish Fiddlers and the Old Time Fiddlers, this is a fun eclectic gang that play foot stomping, hand clapping music from their repertoire of Irish, Scottish, Western swing and old time tunes, as well as sweet waltzes. Dancing and gigantic smiles encouraged.
Although Les Tucker has moved on to the Last Chance Band way up in the sky (playing with all the angels on Starway 65 behind the barn next to the old willow tree), his spirit, generous smile, and love of old time/Western swing music lives on.
