Carousel Adoption Program
Adopt a piece of history, create your own legacy for generations to come.
At the core of our fundraising activities is a classic multi-tiered adoption program, with the ability to “adopt a pony”, “adopt a chariot”, “adopt an art panel”, adopt virtually all parts of the carousel. Adopter recognition is a principle component of the program, and every adopter’s name will be findable on the carousel.
The Four Winds
High atop the carousel locking together the whole mechanism are the rounding boards shields representing The Four Winds from Greek Mythology— wind gods who were each ascribed a cardinal direction from which their respective winds came.
The 4 cast faces were created by Ward Olver, a long time principle artist with several of the Allan Herschell companies. Inspired by Ward’s passion for Greek Mythology and the American West, our carousel’s Four Winds are represented by The Northern Viking, The Southern Belle, The Eastern Prince and The Western Indian.
The Four Winds faces are cast metal, as are the top & bottom scroll pieces, all set on a 1’’ thick wooden plaque. There is a 1919 casting date on the inside of some of the faces, and the personality of each character has been brought forth by the creativity of our artists who foster parented them during their restoration.
